Wood Craft / Boxes from mountain ash bark

Boxes from mountain ash bark

In Härjedalen bark from mountain ash was used for making storing boxes. Their strong scent made them unsuitable for keeping food .

Bark is harvested when the sap is high and the bark is shaped while still green and soft. Birch bark is used for joints, bottom and lid. Birch roots and woolen yarns are used for sewing and woolen fabric and felt for reinforcements and decorations.
